Is my cat part Mau? Empty
PostSubject: Is my cat part Mau?   Is my cat part Mau? EmptySun Mar 16, 2014 10:39 pm

Hello!

About four years ago, I adopted two cats from a shelter. I've long since harbored suspicions that one if them is at least part Mau (though I'd be surprised if she were full). From all the research I've done, she seems to have a LOT of Mau characteristics, though she's more striped than spotted. She definitely doesn't have the bone structure of a regular shorthair cat either. Would any of you be able to tell if she's part Mau? It doesn't really matter in the long run :] I'd just like to know if I'm right or not!

Here are some pictures of her. The first two are her as a kitten, the second two are her at about a year old, and the last one was taken a couple weeks ago.

Hello Star,   Smile What a beautiful cat and well done for rescuing two of them from a shelter  cheers  Sorry to disappoint you but I think she is just a brown/blue mackerel tabby, there are a lot of cats similar looking to Maus that aren't even related to the breed so to come across a cat that was even part Mau would be very rare. I hope this helps and as you say in your post it doesn't really matter.

Thank you for your reply! :]

She's definitely not a regular tabby. I grew up around cats and I've seen a lot of tabbies, and she's definitely different. It's actually a bit hard to capture in photos—it's easier to see in person. Everyone I've asked has agreed she's not the same; her bone structure is different, and so is her face shape. Her fur is sleeker as well. If she's not part Mau, I wonder what she might be. It won't make me love her any more or any less, but what can I say—I'm a curious one ;]

[edit] It may be worth mentioning that she's also got the extra flap of skin that Maus are known for having.

In case it helps, here's a quick little video of both of my cats from a couple years ago. I was standing by the drawer where I keep the cat food scoops, so they thought my iPod was food. Very Happy (And even if it doesn't help identify her, it's still precious!)
